Update 8:20 am
Eletrobras has partnered with C3 AI to apply artificial intelligence in the operation of the power transmission network, focusing on real-time monitoring and issue resolution, the companies told Reuters. The C3 AI Grid Intelligence tool was implemented in ten Eletrobras power substations last year and will now be deployed to all transmission assets of the company, the largest operator in Brazil, responsible for 74,000 kilometers of lines, or 37% of the National Interconnected System (SIN). The value of the agreement was not disclosed. Eletrobras’ investment in artificial intelligence comes at a time when investments in power grids are gaining relevance worldwide, both in preparation for a more complex and dynamic operation of diversified electrical grids, and as a security reinforcement against extreme weather events and other occurrences. In Brazil, one of the main challenges faced by transmission companies is fires near power lines and substations. Last year, the National Electric System Operator (ONS) recorded a record 931 outages in the basic transmission network caused by wildfires.
