The stomach cancer screening initiative by the Delta Cancer Foundation (DCF) in Tiruchi has come to a close after serving 327 individuals from various districts, including Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Karaikkal. The free endoscopic screening camp conducted throughout November saw a participation of 177 men and 150 women. Among them, 38 young individuals under 30 years old with stomach issues received guidance on healthy eating habits to prevent cancer through lifestyle changes.
During the camp, six patients were diagnosed with early-stage stomach cancer, two with advanced stomach cancer, and four with esophageal cancer. Two economically disadvantaged patients underwent free surgeries. Senior gastroenterological consultants from Sri Ramakrishna Specialty Hospital in Tiruchi conducted the endoscopies as part of the initiative.
According to a statement by DCF, the November screening camp was a proactive healthcare effort that deeply impacted the community by providing accurate diagnoses, counseling, and guidance to those who often overlook early symptoms due to limited awareness or resources.
