Approaching the August 15th meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States in Alaska, various parties have been making frequent statements, continuously releasing information. During a press conference at the White House on August 11, US President Trump stated that his meeting with Russian President Putin in Alaska would be an ‘exploratory meeting,’ with outcomes that could be ‘good or bad,’ but he believes both sides will engage in ‘constructive dialogue.’ Even before the meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States began, it had already stirred the winds of change among various parties. Trump’s use of the term ‘exploratory meeting’ seemed to be an effort to lower external expectations; Ukraine, on the other hand, sought the support of the European Union to ensure its own security; and the European Union held an urgent meeting to discuss how to deal with the situation.
