Strong Earthquake Hits Sulawesi Island in Indonesia, Measuring 6.2 on Richter Scale

Indonesia is located in a seismic zone known as the ‘Ring of Fire,’ which accounts for 90% of global earthquakes. The earthquake that hit Sulawesi measured 6.2 on the Richter scale, according to the country’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG). Panic ensued among residents, but there have been no reports of casualties or major damage. The region’s infrastructure appeared to have withstood the shock well. Indonesia’s geographical location puts it at high risk for earthquakes due to its position between tectonic plates, making it one of the most earthquake-sensitive regions in the world.
