Sudanese Paramilitary Group Agrees to Humanitarian Truce

The Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group that has been in conflict with the Sudanese military for over two years, has announced its acceptance of a humanitarian truce. The group’s decision comes after seizing el-Fasher city, the last Sudanese military stronghold in Darfur, which had been under siege for 18 months. The RSF statement expressed commitment to the agreement and initiating discussions on a cessation of hostilities, addressing the root causes of conflict, and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people. The US, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE, forming the Quad, have been collaborating to end the war. Massad Boulos, a US adviser for African affairs, mentioned ongoing efforts to finalize details with both Sudanese army and RSF. The proposed plan includes a three-month humanitarian truce followed by a nine-month political process.
