Komisi III DPR held its first meeting with the Indonesian Police, Attorney General, and Supreme Court to address legal reform. Vice Chairman of Komisi III DPR, Rano Alfath, highlighted that the supremacy of law and judicial independence remain a challenge since the 1998 reform. Rano stated that there are still many issues in law enforcement within the Indonesian Police, Attorney General, and courts. The meeting will conclude with the establishment of a Legal Reform task force.
The meeting was attended by Deputy National Police Chief Comr. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo, Deputy Attorney General Asep Nana Mulyana, and Chairperson of the MA Supervisory Board, Suradi. Prior to this, Chairman of Komisi III DPR, Habiburokhman, explained the plan to form a Task Force on Police, Attorney General, and Court Reform after receiving inputs from the public. The public demands comprehensive improvements in these three law enforcement institutions.
The task force formation will begin soon and will invite leaders from the three institutions. Habiburokhman hopes that the Reform Task Force can formulate concrete solutions to minimize deviations and enhance the quality of justice. This week, Komisi III will discuss with the leaders of the three institutions as part of the task force formation process.
Habiburokhman stated, “When we talk about individuals, they exist in all law enforcement institutions. Our goal is to find solutions to handle these phenomena so that the judiciary truly outputs justice and quality law enforcement.” The plan is to summon the leaders of the three institutions on Tuesday and then proceed with the task force’s approval.
