Survey Indicates Brazilian Awareness of Heart Health

An online questionnaire answered by 2,000 people across Brazil indicates that healthy habits for the heart are a common concern among Brazilians. Conducted between August 25th and September 2nd by Ipsos Institute at the request of pharmaceutical company Novartis, the survey found that 64% of respondents had adopted new lifestyle habits for heart health. The perception that these habits are important was also noted: 76% of respondents claimed to be aware of the possibility of preventing a heart attack, and 72% stated they knew someone who had suffered a heart attack. Among those who reported changing their routine for health reasons, 70% began eating healthier, 64% started exercising, and 45% sought activities to reduce stress. Cardiologist Maria Cristina Izar, president of the São Paulo State Society of Cardiology and scientific director of the Women’s Cardiology Department of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology, celebrated some of the results. ‘This survey is evidence that people are better informed and interested in preserving heart health by adopting healthier behaviors,’ highlighted the cardiologist.
