Survivors of Indonesia’s Floods Struggle with Mud and Trauma

In North Sumatra, Indonesia, survivors like Rosmina are wading through thick mud, searching for their belongings in the aftermath of destructive floods. More than 500 people have perished, and many are still missing after heavy rain and a rare tropical storm hit Sumatra island. While the floodwaters have started to recede, the devastation and trauma remain. Rosmina recounted the terror of fleeing her home when the floodwaters came rushing in last week. President Prabowo Subianto visited the area, promising support to survivors and assessing the damage, but has not declared a national emergency yet. The government has sent military aid to help in areas that are still inaccessible.
