Suspect in killing of street cleaner denies crime and claims to be police officer’s husband

When approached at a high-end gym in the Estoril neighborhood, West region of Belo Horizonte, the executive Renê da Silva Nogueira Júnior, 47, suspected of killing street cleaner Laudemir de Souza Fernandes, 44, denied the crime and claimed to be the husband of police officer Ana Paula Balbino Nogueira, from the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG). According to the police report, Renê stated that the vehicle he was driving was registered in Ana Paula’s name, and that his wife had a firearm of the same caliber as the one used in Laudemir’s murder. The report also mentioned that Ana Paula and two other detectives from DHPP were at the gym and witnessed all the procedures carried out at the scene. The police managed to identify the gray BYD vehicle he was driving through security cameras, which recorded the initial letters of the license plate. Officers searched Ana Paula Balbino’s house, and the entry was authorized. No illegal items were found on the premises.
