Sydney Sweeney Admits Regretting Her Reaction to Jeans Ad Scandal

Sydney Sweeney has revealed that she regrets not speaking out during the scandal surrounding the American Eagle jeans ad. Critics accused the actress of inappropriate flirtation with eugenics. The ‘Euphoria’ star admitted, ‘I came to realize that my silence on this matter only widened the divide, rather than bridging it.’ She emphasized that she is ‘absolutely against any manifestation of hate.’ The ‘Great Jeans by Sydney Sweeney’ campaign that started in the summer saw huge success for the brand. The denim model became the most popular among people aged 15 to 25. American Eagle’s stocks rose by 30%. However, the use of the blonde blue-eyed celebrity in the promotional campaign sparked criticism for having undertones of ‘white supremacy’ and ‘racial superiority support.’ Some social media users compared the ad to ‘Nazi propaganda.’ ‘Honestly, I was surprised by the reaction,’ Sweeney commented. ‘I did it simply because I love jeans and I love the brand. I do not share the views that some people associate with the campaign. Many attribute motives and labels to me that simply do not reflect reality.’
