The Popularity of “Gu-zi Economy” during the “Eleven” Holiday Drives the Youth Consumption Market

The “Gu-zi” economy, derived from the transliteration of the English word “goods,” mainly refers to peripheral products derived from IPs such as comics, animations, and games, including blind boxes, badges, and cards. ‘In the virtual world, characters become badges, dolls, etc., turning into ‘friends’ in reality providing a lot of companionship and happiness,’ said Li Buding, a “Gu-zi” enthusiast, on October 4, meeting friends at a shopping mall in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province.

In recent years, the “Gu-zi economy” has become a new consumption hotspot. During this year’s “Eleven” holiday, the “Gu-zi” shop at the Dashanghai Shopping Mall in Zhengzhou was bustling with customers.
