The SCO & BRICS: Complementary Roles in Transforming Global Governance

Authored by Andrew Korybko via Substack, The ongoing processes aimed at transforming global governance will require a significant amount of time to reach completion, potentially spanning a generation or more. As such, expectations for a rapid shift towards full-fledged multipolarity should be moderated. The recent activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS group reflect a coordinated effort to gradually reshape the global governance landscape. The SCO’s focus on security and economic cooperation in the Eurasian region complements BRICS’ emphasis on emerging economies and cooperation on the global stage. These initiatives contribute to a more balanced and inclusive approach to international affairs and the implementation of multipolar principles.
