According to the EY consulting group report, half of car buyers worldwide plan to purchase a new or used vehicle with an internal combustion engine in the next 24 months, which is 13 percentage points higher than in 2024. Preferences for electric and hybrid vehicles decreased by 10 and 5 percentage points, reaching 14% and 16%, respectively. EY group data shows that 36% of potential electric car buyers are reconsidering or postponing their purchase due to geopolitical events. The EU might introduce a ‘softened’ version of its plan to phase out internal combustion engines by 2035.
