The World’s Oldest Spider: Meet Number 16 and Her Incredible 43-Year Journey

Number 16, a Gauis villosus spider, has made history by living for an exceptional 43 years, making her the longest-living spider ever documented. Her life in the wilderness of Western Australia provides unique insights into mygalomorph spiders, their behavior, and longevity. ‘Number 16 has surpassed all expectations by reaching such an old age,’ said spider biologist Leanda Mason. Researchers were able to monitor her lifespan from the time she was first tagged in 1974 until her death in 2016.
