TKW Ponorogo Dies in Apartment Fire in Hong Kong

Ponorogo – A tragic news has come from Ponorogo Regency. A migrant worker from Desa Tajug, Siman District, named Dina Martiana (36), became one of the victims who died in a fire at Wang Fuk Court Apartment in Hong Kong. The family confirmed the news on Saturday (11/29/2025).
Tohirin, the village official from Desa Tajug, mentioned that the family initially received preliminary information about the fire. However, at that time, they could not confirm it as there was no official confirmation from the government or agency. “We only received the confirmation last night after the village head informed us that the victim is indeed Mbak Dina, the daughter of Mr. Samud,” explained Tohirin when interviewed at the funeral house on Sunday (11/30/2025).
Tohirin shared that Dina’s body is planned to be buried at the public cemetery in Sukun, Desa Tajug. ‘If there are no obstacles, the body will arrive in Indonesia on Wednesday (12/3/2025),’ he added.
Meanwhile, the victim’s younger brother, Riko Andi, revealed that he received the news of his sister’s death on Saturday afternoon, after officials in Hong Kong confirmed the body’s identity based on Dina’s documents. “Earlier, the family was anxious because the apartment where my sister worked caught on fire. I tried calling, but couldn’t get through,” said Riko.
Riko mentioned that Dina last communicated with the family on Tuesday (11/25/2025). There were no suspicious signs during that conversation. ‘Just asking how we were and joking around as usual,’ he added.
He also said that his sister was trapped in a room during the fire. ‘According to the agent, my sister was trapped and couldn’t come down because of the smoke below. So, she could only stay in the room,’ he revealed.
What devastated the family was the suspicion that Dina died while trying to protect her employer with another colleague. ‘The agent said they were both trying to protect the employer. Both maids died, and the employer was initially in critical condition but eventually passed away as well,’ said Riko.
It is known that Dina had been working as a migrant worker in Hong Kong for the last three years. She leaves behind a husband and a child still in the ninth grade of junior high school. Dina was the eldest of four siblings.
