Floods have been affecting several regions in Southeast Asia and South Asia since late November to early December 2025. Millions of people have been impacted by the floods following heavy rains over the course of several days. According to Al Jazeera’s report on Monday (12/1/2025), over 1,100 people have died due to floods in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. In Indonesia and Thailand, tens of thousands of children were forced to miss school due to the floods and landslides. Experts say that the severe floods in Asia are partly due to the prolonged La Nina cycle, triggering storms with heavy rains and strengthening monsoon seasons. In Indonesia and Thailand, the November-December 2025 floods were caused by Cyclone Senyar formed in the Malacca Strait, bringing heavy rains, strong winds, and large waves to Sumatra Island, Indonesia, Malaysia, and at least eight provinces in southern Thailand.
