Tragic Death of 7-year-old Girl Highlights Healthcare Challenges for Migrant Families in Bengaluru

In a heartbreaking incident, a seven-year-old girl from West Bengal passed away in Bengaluru on December 3 after developing ‘severe dengue shock syndrome’, a critical complication of dengue, due to her family’s struggle to obtain timely medical assistance. The child’s parents, migrants from Nadia district, had recently relocated to Bengaluru and were residing in shanties in Varthur. Jannatun Khatun was admitted to the paediatric ICU in critical condition after experiencing five days of fever, as per the Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre’s death summary report. Despite intensive care efforts, including central line insertion and inotropic support, the child could not be saved.
