The Abui tribe, known for their headhunting past, welcomed me with a traditional rite involving drums and dancing on Alor island. This interaction revealed the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous communities. Throughout my journey on a Ponant expedition cruise, I had the chance to immerse myself in diverse ethnic groups, witness wild Komodo dragons, and participate in local festivities like water buffalo racing. Despite the language barriers and customs, the villagers were warm and welcoming, eager to share their unique way of life with us.
