Truck driver tied up in bomb scare halts Rodoanel

The Rodoanel Mario Covas is currently blocked off due to a reported truck abduction in Itapecerica da Serra, Greater São Paulo, on Wednesday morning. According to the Artesp Information Control Center (São Paulo State Agency for Regulation of Delegated Public Transport Services), the driver was robbed and taken hostage around 4:00 am, being forced to block the road with the truck. Preliminary information from Artesp indicates he was approached by three individuals and forced to cause the obstruction.

Additionally, the agency reports that the man is wrapped in makeshift bomb wires, conscious but disoriented. The Highway Police and Fire Department have been called to the scene. All lanes and shoulders of SP-021 are closed at kilometer 44.8. The situation has been ongoing for over two hours, causing more than 20 kilometers of slow or congested traffic on Rodoanel.

The Military Police stated that they were alerted and are responding with the Special Actions Group (Gate). Initial reports suggest that the driver may have had a psychotic episode, although information is conflicting between Artesp and the police. The situation is still developing.
