President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday (25) that he will meet with President Lula in Malaysia. However, he stated that the reduction in import tariffs depends on the ‘right circumstances’. The meeting is expected to take place on Sunday (26) as part of a parallel agenda to the ASEAN Summit (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).
The confirmation came as Trump was talking to journalists on Air Force 1 en route to Malaysia. Prior to Trump’s statement, neither the White House nor the Brazilian government had confirmed the meeting.
It is expected that Lula and Donald Trump will discuss the 50% tariff hike on Brazilian products, as well as the sanctions imposed on Brazilian authorities, such as Supreme Federal Court ministers and public servants linked to the More Doctors program.
