Trump Declares War on China in Trade Dispute

President Donald Trump declared on Wednesday (15) that the US is in a ‘trade war’ with China. The Republican’s statement came during a press conference at the Oval Office, where he was asked about the meeting he will have in a few weeks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and whether it can be said that the countries are in a trade war if no agreement is reached by then.

‘Well, we are in one now. You see, we have a tariff of 100%. If we didn’t have tariffs, we would be considered nothing. We would have no defense. They used tariffs against us, but we never had anyone sitting in that chair who felt the need to do so,’ replied Trump.

‘And they allowed us to have a debt of 37 trillion dollars, etc., etc. We, tariffs, are a very important tool for our defense and our national security. If we don’t have tariffs, we will not have national security.’
