US President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of troops to the northwestern city of Portland, Oregon, as well as federal immigration facilities across the country, in a controversial move to use the military for domestic purposes. The president wrote on his ‘Truth Social’ network on Saturday that he would ask Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to execute this order, adding that if necessary, soldiers would be allowed to ‘fully engage’. This decision has sparked criticism and concern among both local authorities and the public.
