In Washington, President Donald Trump has reversed his stance on international students, arguing that they bring significant benefits to American higher education. Trump, in his effort to combat the ‘Make America Great Again’ agenda, has requested permission for foreign students to study in American universities. According to him, foreign students play a crucial role in enriching the country’s academic tradition financially and intellectually.
To advertise here, Fox News reports that Trump opposed the agenda of MAGA Island. He believes that a decrease in the number of students from China and other countries would negatively impact a significant portion of US colleges, leading to a decline in enrollment.
Trump stated, ‘Do you want to exclude people from various parts of the world coming to our country, avoiding our entire university-college system? I have no interest in that.’ This statement was made to Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
He expressed further, saying, ‘I aspire to move forward with the world. I have no interest in isolating ourselves.’ This illustrates that Trump aims to facilitate engagement with international students despite concerns about potential financial losses to the American higher education system.
One of Trump’s main concerns is preventing a decrease in the number of foreign students, particularly those from China, to avoid jeopardizing the economic prosperity of the US high education system. Some educational institutions, typically catering to the black community, fear Trump’s efforts to tighten regulations may restrict access for certain students.
‘From China and other countries, there are a lot of people coming to America. We have a strong system of colleges in America. We need to limit access to several colleges in America, although some will appreciate it, the majority of American colleges will be restricted,’ Trump stated.
‘Educational institutions in the United States are receiving a large amount of money from foreign students. The majority of foreign students coming from various countries are offering a significant sum of money. I want our educational system to grow… I am not looking at it as a must, but as a business,’ Trump added.
Trump’s second term presidency has seen a shift in his stance on international students and their impact on the US higher education system. Following his reelection in January, his administration focused on canceling visas and restricting Palestinian-friendly activities involving student participation, implementing harsh regulations that were previously proposed.
