Trump Says Negotiations on TikTok Depend on China and Attacks Fed Chief

President Trump addressed the press before boarding the Marine One helicopter bound for New York, in Washington, DC, on September 11, 2025. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated on Sunday (14) that he continues to negotiate with China for the sale of TikTok to keep the app operating in the country. The country is expected to extend the deadline for the app’s sale for the fourth time since Trump took office. According to Trump, the deal depends on China. He did not provide details on what points are hindering the conclusion of an agreement between the countries. Approximately 170 million Americans use the app. ‘I may or may not, we are negotiating TikTok now. We can let it die, or we can, I don’t know, it depends, it depends on China,’ Trump told reporters. ‘It doesn’t matter very much. I would like to do it for the kids.’ In June, the President extended the deadline by 90 days for TikTok to find a non-Chinese buyer, to prevent the app from being banned in the United States due to lack of Chinese government authorization. The extension period expires on Wednesday (17), but Trump has already postponed the deadline on two other occasions. The goal of the U.S. is to prevent Chinese authorities from accessing the personal data of TikTok users in the United States or influencing American public opinion through the platform’s algorithm. No concrete evidence has ever been presented to justify these concerns. The sale requires approval from ByteDance and Chinese authorities, who have not yet given the green light.
