Trump Tariffs: 35% Blame Lula, and 22% Blame Bolsonaro

Despite the government’s efforts to associate Donald Trump’s tariff hike with the Bolsonaro family, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is seen as the main culprit for the surcharge applied to Brazil by 35% of respondents in the latest Datafolha survey. Former President Jair Bolsonaro (22%) and his son Eduardo Bolsonaro (17%), who is in the US lobbying the Trump administration for tougher punitive measures against Brazil, are the second and third most cited as main responsible, respectively. Together, they add up to 39%. In the Datafolha survey, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes is seen as the main culprit for the tariff hike by 15% of respondents. Seven percent don’t know how to answer, while 3% believe none of the listed figures are responsible. One percent say that all – Lula, Bolsonaro, Eduardo, and Moraes – are guilty.
