TV Series ‘Oxygen Masks’ Depicts the Fight Against AIDS in Brazil

Inspired by real events, ‘Oxygen Masks Won’t Drop Automatically’ portrays the struggle of flight attendants (played by Johnny Massaro and Bruna Linzmeyer) to clandestinely bring AZT to Brazil in the late 1980s, when the medication was still banned in the country. The LGBTQIA+ community, most affected not only by HIV contamination but also by prejudice and government and societal omissions, was the focus of the series.

Splash interviewed Bruna Linzmeyer, Johnny Massaro, and Ícaro Silva, the leads in this miniseries premiering on HBO Max this weekend. ‘Oxygen Masks’ is one of the streaming platform’s highlights this year, produced by Morena Filmes, created by Thiago Pimentel, and directed by Marcelo Gomes and Carol Minêm. The show’s emotional impact goes beyond its stunning period production.
