Two members of the United States National Guard were shot in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday (26) near the White House. About 20 minutes after the first alert, the Metropolitan Police reported that one person had been arrested and that the area is secure. Officers were dispatched to the scene, and reporters at the White House had to enter the building after the shots were fired. The information about the wounded was confirmed by the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem. President Donald Trump is at his resort in Palm Beach, Florida, ahead of Thanksgiving. Vice President JD Vance is in Kentucky. The National Guard did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNN. The circumstances of the shooting are unclear. National Guard troops from various states have been in Washington, D.C., for months as part of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on crime in the nation’s capital, which has since expanded to other cities across the country.
