Two Tropical Cyclone Seeds Arrive in Indonesia, BMKG: Be Alert for Extreme Weather!

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is monitoring two tropical cyclone seeds, namely 97S and 98S, near the Indonesian region. What are the potential impacts? In an official statement, BMKG stated that both cyclone seeds have a low potential to develop into tropical cyclones in the next 72 hours. However, this phenomenon will still trigger extreme weather conditions in several Indonesian regions. BMKG’s Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto, explained that based on the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) Jakarta’s monitoring results, the center of the 97S cyclone system is located around 11.8°LS and 120.8°BT, with maximum wind speeds reaching 25 knots (~46 km/h) and a minimum central air pressure of 1009 hPa. ‘However, 97S cyclone seed potentially impacts weather conditions and waves in Indonesian waters indirectly,’ said Guswanto on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
