Understanding why neither government nor opposition endorse Derrite’s Anti-Faction Bill

Following criticism from the Planalto Palace, right-wing governors, lawmakers from the ruling party and opposition, as well as security experts, the rapporteur of the Anti-Faction project, Deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP), presented the fourth version of the text on Wednesday night. However, there was still no consensus, and the vote was postponed to next Tuesday. The government’s assessment is that the text remains ‘improvised.’ The main issues highlighted include concerns about funding for the Federal Police (PF) and the characterization of the crime of ‘criminal faction.’ Additionally, five right-wing governors met with the President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicans – PB), and requested that he engage with members of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to prevent future legal challenges.
