The result repeated the percentage from the quarter ended in July, when the unemployment rate reached the lowest level in the institute’s historical series, started in 2012. In the quarter ended in May, the unemployment rate was at 6.2%. One year earlier, in the same period, it had been 6.6%. Unemployment affected 6.1 million people in the quarter — the lowest ever recorded in the historical series. The result represents a 9% decrease (605,000 people) compared to the quarter up to May against the previous quarter and a 14.6% decrease (1 million fewer) compared to the same quarter in 2024.

Unemployment remains at 5.6% in August and repeats historic low, says IBGE
