The US government has revoked the visas of Health Minister Alexandre Padilha’s wife and ten-year-old daughter in a new offensive against Brazilian authorities associated with the Mais Médicos program. The decision was communicated on Friday, the 15th, by the US Consulate General in São Paulo, which sent formal notifications to the two individuals, informing them that ‘information emerged’ after issuance that made them ineligible to maintain the document. Padilha himself was not directly impacted by the measure as his visa expired in 2024. The minister, who led the health ministry in 2013 when the Mais Médicos program was created under Dilma Rousseff’s government, has publicly defended the program and criticized President Donald Trump in recent days.
