US Lifts 40% Tariffs on Coffee, Meat, and Other Brazilian Products

The US announced on Thursday (21) the removal of a 40% tariff on certain Brazilian products. The decision was published by the White House. The selection includes beef, coffee, açaí, cocoa, and various other products. A total of 249 items were added to the list of exceptions from the tariff imposed on Brazil. The decision applies to products entering the United States from November 13th onwards. Last week, the United States had already reduced import tariffs on around 200 food products, including coffee, meat, açaí, and mango. For Brazil, the rates had dropped from 50% to 40%. Now, the tariff for Brazilian products such as coffee and meat, mentioned in both White House decisions, returns to pre-Trump tariff levels. Unlike last week’s executive order, which was global, today’s decision applies only to Brazil. In this Thursday’s order, Trump mentioned a conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the beginning of October, stating that the removal of tariffs is a result of negotiations between the Brazilian and American governments. “On October 6, 2025, I had a phone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, during which we agreed to start negotiations to address the concerns identified in Executive Order 14323. These negotiations are ongoing.” “I also received additional information and recommendations from various officials […] [who] in their opinion, certain agricultural imports from Brazil should no longer be subject to the additional rate […] because, among other relevant considerations, there has been initial progress in negotiations with the Government of Brazil.” Donald Trump at a press conference at the White House on October 15, 2025 – Photo: ANDREW CABALLERO-REYNOLDS / AFP Relie…
