US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, announced on Friday that the Pentagon is sending the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, described by the US Navy as ‘the most capable, adaptable, and lethal combat platform in the world’, to the waters of South America, in the latest escalation within the military force concentration mobilization in the region. The announcement comes on the same day that Hegseth confirmed the 10th attack on a vessel suspected of carrying drugs—and a day after Washington announced military exercises with Trinidad and Tobago, a few kilometers off the coast of Venezuela.
