US Secretary of State Marco Rubio pressed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the need to achieve a ‘humanitarian ceasefire’ in Sudan during a call on Friday with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Rubio emphasized the importance of the ceasefire and discussed efforts to implement President Donald Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan. The strategic relationship between the US and UAE was also affirmed in the call. The humanitarian situation in Sudan has been deteriorating rapidly, prompting the need for immediate action to halt weapons support to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
