US to Present Draft UN Resolution on Gaza to Security Council Members

The United States is set to present a draft resolution on President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza to the 10 elected members of the United Nations Security Council later today, as confirmed by a US official. Representatives from Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates will be involved, demonstrating significant regional support. One month ago, Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas agreed on the initial phase of Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, including a ceasefire and a hostage-release deal. A draft UN Security Council resolution has been prepared by the US, endorsing a two-year mandate for a transitional governance body in Gaza and the presence of an international stabilisation force in the region, based on a text reviewed by Reuters. The upcoming shared version of the resolution with the Security Council members may have undergone modifications; typically, a resolution requires at least nine votes in favor and no vetoes from major powers like Russia, China, the US, Britain, or France to pass. It remains unclear whether the US has already shared the draft resolution with Russia and China for their input. The draft text suggests the authorization of a Board of Peace transitional governance administration to facilitate the establishment of a temporary International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in Gaza with the capability to utilize all necessary measures, potentially including force, to execute its responsibilities.
