Videographer Captures Surrender of Criminals During Operation in Rio de Janeiro

During a large-scale police operation in Rio de Janeiro, a videographer captured the moment when officers negotiated the surrender of a group of criminals hiding in a house in the North Zone. The footage, recorded by videographer Jadson Marques, who was accompanying the team during the action, depicted the tension during the conversation between the agents and the suspects. ‘I’m a journalist, I’m here, I will record everything. You can surrender,’ Jadson said to the suspects inside the house. It was past 2 p.m. when the Shock Battalion team located the hideout. The officers tried to persuade the criminals to surrender. ‘There’s press here! The press is here!’ one of the agents said, trying to ensure that the negotiation took place without violence. The presence of the cameras seemed to help calm the situation, as the criminals began to come out one by one with their hands raised. ‘We’ll come down slowly here, alright? Everything is peaceful,’ one of the men said, instructing the group to surrender peacefully. According to the Civil Police, 26 criminals were arrested and 19 rifles were seized from inside the house. Jadson, the videographer, often covers police operations.
