Life in Vietnam has been extremely difficult due to continuous heavy rainfall in the central part of the country, leading to catastrophic flooding and landslides. This natural disaster has claimed the lives of at least 41 people so far, with 9 still missing. Countless lives have been disrupted, and rescue efforts are ongoing amidst challenging conditions.
According to reports, in the last three days alone, many areas in the affected regions have received over 150 centimeters of rainfall, creating a situation akin to a ‘deluge’ everywhere. More than 52,000 homes have been completely submerged in water, while over 62,000 people have been evacuated to safer locations after abandoning their homes. Major roads have been closed due to heavy rains and landslides, making rescue operations even more difficult.
Nearly 1 million homes are without electricity, making it challenging for people to communicate. Rescue operations are underway across the affected areas. Efforts to rescue people stranded on the rooftops of flooded homes continue. Thousands of people are seeking assistance.
The economic impact of this disaster is significant, especially for Vietnam’s coffee-producing regions. The affected areas are popular for tourism along the coast and for travel as well. The natural disaster has raised concerns about heavy losses for the country’s coffee industry and tourism sector. Vietnam’s Ministry of Environment confirmed that the death toll has reached 41 in 6 provinces, and search and rescue operations for missing individuals are ongoing.
