Consumer Reports experts have labeled the Volkswagen ID.4 electric car as one of the least reliable vehicles. According to the magazine’s rating, the Volkswagen ID.4 model ranks among the least reliable options, scoring only 29 out of 100 points. The main reason for its low rating is attributed to the battery’s reliability issues and the charging system of the model. For instance, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a massive recall of around 14,000 ID.4 electric cars in 2025 due to identified faults in the battery charging equipment. Problems started emerging shortly after the serial production launch of the Volkswagen ID.4 model in 2021. Between 2021 and 2024, the company had to conduct several significant recalls of the vehicles due to serious technical defects. Common issues included incorrect battery block connections, wiring faults, and malfunctioning onboard sensors.
