WATCH: Plane Flies over Hurricane Melissa’s ‘Eye,’ Threatening Devastation in Jamaica

The United States Air Force released images on Tuesday (28) of the inside of Hurricane Melissa, nearing Jamaica with winds of up to 280 km/h. The phenomenon, classified as a category 5, is considered potentially the most destructive in the history of the Caribbean country, and the most powerful on the planet in 2025. The photos were captured by a military squadron aboard a propeller plane used in storm data collection missions. The team recorded an atmospheric pressure of 933 hectopascals, indicating maximum strength on the Saffir-Simpson scale. The hurricane is moving slowly at about 4 km/h, increasing the risk of prolonged rainfall, floods, and landslides. Jamaican authorities have confirmed three deaths during preparations for the cyclone’s arrival.
