PETALING JAYA: The dream of seeing men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun reach the Hylo Open final was dashed after they fell to Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman-Moh Reza 16-21, 15-21 in the semi-finals on Saturday (Nov 1).
The third seeds were far from their best in the match held at the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrucken, struggling to keep up with their Indonesian opponents and trailing early in the opening game. Wei Chong-Kai Wun tried to force a decider but found it difficult to contain the Indonesians, who are coached by badminton legend Hendra Setiawan, and eventually went down after just 34 minutes of play. Their defeat also ended their hopes of avenging compatriots Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, who were beaten by the same Indonesian pair in the quarter-finals.
