DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard has grown into a powerful force within the country’s theocracy. Answering only to its supreme leader, the Guard wields significant political and economic influence. The elite military unit was formed after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and has since played a key role in defending Iran’s interests both domestically and abroad. Recognized for its involvement in regional conflicts, the Guard is also responsible for overseeing Iran’s missile program and conducting cyber operations. Its designation as a terrorist organization by the U.S. has added to tensions between the two countries.
