The measure impacts users of devices with older operating systems that will no longer receive updates from the app. Meta, the company behind the app, states that the change aims to ensure greater security and compatibility with new features. Devices that do not receive official updates will become more vulnerable to failures and cyber attacks. Affected users should check the operating system version in the phone settings and, if possible, update it to continue using WhatsApp. Additionally, it is recommended to backup conversations: on Android, by using Google Drive, and on iPhone, through iCloud, ensuring that the chat history is preserved on a new device. Among the phones that will no longer be supported are Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Note 2, LG Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, Motorola Moto G first generation, Droid Razr HD, Huawei Ascend D2, Sony Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V, HTC One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, first generation iPhone SE, and iPhone 6 with iOS 12 or earlier.
