Justice Alexandre de Moraes from the STF summoned Jair Bolsonaro’s defense to explain Nikolas Ferreira’s (PL-MG) use of a cell phone during the federal deputy’s visit to the former president on Friday (11/21). On that day, images captured by TV Globo showed Nikolas using the cell phone on Bolsonaro’s balcony in Brasilia. The former president was with the Minas Gerais lawmaker at the time of the device usage. When asked, Nikolas stated he used the cell phone only to ‘answer’ an audio call from his brother-in-law. The Minas Gerais deputy emphasized that Bolsonaro did not use the phone or communicate through the device. Bolsonaro’s defense also told the STF that he did not use or have ‘visual contact’ with Nikolas’s cell phone. They also said the former president never violated the ban on using a cell phone under house arrest. Nikolas’s visit to Bolsonaro happened hours before the ex-president attempted to tamper with his ankle monitor with a welding iron and, the next day, was arrested preventively due to a flight risk.
