Who is Jorge Messias, nominated by Lula to be a Supreme Court Justice

The Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, was the name chosen by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to fill the vacancy left by Luís Roberto Barroso on the Supreme Court (STF). A Law graduate from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Messias has built a career marked by technical expertise and proximity to the PT’s political core. He served as legal counsel for the Ministries of Education and Science and Technology between 2011 and 2012. Messias took on the role of deputy chief for legal affairs at the Civil House in 2015, during Dilma Rousseff’s presidency.
