As the mystery unfolded in the last chapter, fans of the soap opera took to the streets in bars in downtown and the Barra Funda area in São Paulo. The atmosphere was lively, with patrons dressed in costumes reminiscent of iconic scenes from the show, participating in live polls about the fate of the main characters. Actor Lucas Leto, who played the character Sardinha, was present at the event in Guarulhos. ‘At first I thought it could be Fátima, Celina, but my theory is that she didn’t die,’ he said in an interview with SP2 hours before the final episode aired. And he was right. At Mitte in Freitas, the crowd arrived early, around 7.30 pm, already excited and making their first bets. The bar also held a sweepstake with a bottle of sparkling wine as the prize for guessing the killer. When Marco Aurélio appeared, remembering the gunshot scene, the majority did not look surprised, but when the villain appeared alive, those in the bar cheered and clapped. Some shouted, ‘I knew she was alive!’. Social media showed that 24% believed Marco Aurélio killed Odete. Journalists from g1 give their guesses about the suspects. Social media monitoring by Quaest showed that Brazilians believed the killer of the character Odete Roitman in the soap opera ‘Vale Tudo’ was Marco Aurélio, with 24% of mentions by noon on Friday (17). Following were: Maria de Fátima: 20%; Celina: 12%; Heleninha: 11%; César: 10%; Raquel: 10%; Another killer: 10%; Odete is alive: 1%. The debate about the culprits for the villain’s death varied throughout the final stretch of the plot. The character Maria de Fátima, for instance, reached a peak of 47% mentions as a suspect on October 12 and decreased with confessions made by other characters in the last week of the soap opera. The tracking was conducted between October 6 and 17, 2025 through a Quaest API, analyzing posts on X, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, Tumblr, YouTube, and news websites. 551,000 mentions related to the villain’s murder were mapped, averaging 1,900 mentions per hour on the subject, with an average reach of 6.2 million views during the monitored period. The awaited murder of Odete Roitman aired on October 6. Throughout the episode, five characters (Celina, Heleninha, Maria de Fátima, Marco Aurélio, and César) were shown planning Odete’s murder, with the final scene finally revealing the villain’s death (without showing who fired the shot). The soap opera garnered about 130,000 mentions and 2.9 million interactions on X (formerly Twitter) on the day of broadcast. According to a FGV Communication survey, the number of mentions and interactions was the highest recorded throughout the show’s broadcast period. In 1988, the mystery was a milestone in television drama and engaged the audience, who wanted to find out who was responsible for the death of one of the greatest soap opera villains. The killer, revealed in the last chapter, was Leila (Cássia Kis), Marco Aurélio’s wife.
