Whoosh, Indonesia’s High-Speed Rail Project Under Investigation for Corruption

Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is currently investigating the country’s high-speed rail project, Whoosh. The 142km line, Southeast Asia’s first HSR, runs from Jakarta to Bandung and has been operational since 2023. With daily ridership ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 passengers, the project cost approximately US$7.3 billion, mostly financed by Indonesia through loans from the China Development Bank. Preliminary investigations by the KPK began early in 2025, with ongoing efforts to collect data and information, as reported by Indonesian media outlets.
