Floods in Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam have caught the world’s attention. In Indonesia, flash floods and landslides have occurred in three provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, resulting in more than 700 casualties. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has commented on this issue. He mentioned that WHO is currently mobilizing rapid response teams to assist the affected countries. He also emphasized that climate change is leading to more frequent extreme events, ultimately resulting in disasters.
