During a 30-minute video conference, the presidents had ‘a great conversation,’ as Trump posted on social media, ‘in a friendly tone,’ according to a note later sent by the Planalto. However, a subject became the focal point of this approach between the two presidents: Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State. He was appointed by Trump to continue negotiations with Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and Finance Minister Fernando Haddad (PT). According to a source familiar with the negotiation, the Brazilian government preferred that the American interlocutor not be him.
