At the helm of Atlético since September, Jorge Sampaoli experienced his most painful defeat with the Minas Gerais club this Saturday (22). In Asunción, Paraguay, the team was defeated by Lanús on penalties in the final of the Copa Sudamericana. However, the continental final loss will not influence the continuity of the coach’s work. According to Itatiaia, Sampaoli will continue to lead Atlético next season.
After the game, the coach himself commented on his stay and expressed interest in building a longer project: ‘I have a two-year contract here, one and a half years. I want to undertake a long-term project for this club. In Brazil, it’s a bit complicated, but my idea is to build something like we did in 2020,’ he said.
Additionally, Sampaoli is currently involved in planning the squad and objectives of Galo in 2026. He aims to reformulate the team and search for players who are better suited to the playing style he wants to implement at the Minas Gerais club. The Argentine has a contract in Belo Horizonte until December 2027.
The next match for Atlético is scheduled for next Tuesday (22), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), when they will face Flamengo in the Brazilian Serie A.
