World plastic pollution treaty talks collapse with no deal

Talks aimed at reaching a landmark global treaty on plastic pollution failed on Friday as 185 nations struggled to agree on how to address the growing problem. Negotiations went past the deadline as countries attempted to find common ground, but ultimately failed to do so. A significant group of countries pushed for bold actions like limiting plastic production, while a smaller group of oil-producing states focused more on waste management. The breakdown in talks was a major setback for the environment and international diplomacy, especially with the current focus on these issues. Despite six rounds of talks over three years yielding no agreement, countries expressed disappointment but remained committed to future negotiations.
